The project
Rental Gears connects people who rent out equipment with people who need it for a while. Providers list their rental products by category with photos and details. Renters search for what they need and view results as a list or on a map, then message the provider in the app to agree the rental. Ratings help both sides choose who to deal with. An admin web portal gives the operator full control over users, product listings and approvals, so only checked listings go live. We built the mobile app in Flutter, the admin portal in React and the backend in Laravel, with Firebase alongside.
The challenge
- People who needed equipment for a short time had no simple place to find who rents it out nearby.
- Owners of rental gear relied on word of mouth to reach renters.
- An open marketplace needed a way to check listings before they appear.
