When Kotlin Multiplatform fits best
Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) lets one team write the core of your app once, such as data, networking, business rules and offline storage, and use it on both Android and iOS.
Read the full overview
You can share the user interface too with Compose Multiplatform, or keep fully native screens in Jetpack Compose and SwiftUI where that matters. It suits companies with an existing Android app in Kotlin, teams that want fewer duplicated bugs between platforms, and products that need native performance and native platform features without two separate codebases.
You already have a Kotlin Android app
Your Android code, models and rules can become the shared core of a new or rebuilt iOS app.
Android and iOS keep drifting apart
Two teams implement the same rules twice, and bugs or features differ between platforms.
You need native performance
Apps with heavy data, offline sync, media or device features that want native speed on both platforms.
You want to share step by step
Teams that cannot pause releases for a full rewrite and prefer to share one module at a time.
Outcomes
What you get
- One implementation of business rules, so Android and iOS behave the same
- Fewer duplicated bugs and less duplicated testing
- Native performance and native look on each platform
- Your existing Kotlin Android code reused instead of thrown away
- Freedom to share as much or as little UI as makes sense
- Code, accounts and IP owned by you
What we deliver
What teams build with KMP
Offline-first field apps
Shared sync, storage and conflict rules for apps used with weak or no signal.
Fintech and banking apps
One tested implementation of calculations, validation and security rules on both platforms.
Health and fitness apps
Shared data models with native HealthKit and Health Connect integrations.
Learn moreRetail and ordering apps
Shared cart, pricing and checkout logic with native UI and payments.
SDKs for other apps
A single Kotlin SDK published for both Android and iOS customers.
What you receive
Sharing plan and architecture
A written plan of shared and native modules, with the reasons for each choice.
Shared KMP modules
Business logic, networking and storage with automated tests.
Android and iOS apps
Native or Compose Multiplatform UI, published to Google Play and the App Store.
CI and release pipelines
Automated builds, tests and store uploads for both platforms.
Documentation and handover
Guides for your team on working with the shared code, plus all source code in your repositories.
Compose Multiplatform UI
Share screens where it saves time.
- Shared UI for Android and iOS with Compose Multiplatform
- Desktop and web targets from the same Compose code where needed
- Native SwiftUI or UIKit screens mixed in where iOS users expect them
- Design systems and themes shared across platforms
Built with
- Compose Multiplatform
- SwiftUI
- UIKit
Native platform features
Full access to each platform's APIs.
- expect/actual declarations for camera, location, biometrics and payments
- Swift-friendly APIs for the iOS team with SKIE and Swift export
- Push notifications, background work and deep links on both platforms
- Health, Bluetooth and sensor integrations through native code
Built with
- Swift
- SKIE
Adopting KMP in an existing app
Move step by step, not in one big rewrite.
- Assessment of which modules are worth sharing first
- A shared KMP module added to your current Android and iOS apps
- Gradual migration of networking, storage and business rules
- Build, CI and release pipelines updated for both platforms
Quality, release and support
Keep both apps healthy after launch.
- Automated tests for shared code, Android and iOS
- CI builds with GitHub Actions, Bitrise or Codemagic
- App Store and Google Play releases with Fastlane
- Kotlin, Compose and library upgrades as new versions ship

Why teams choose Equitysoft for Kotlin Multiplatform
Since 2018 we have delivered 680+ projects for 310+ clients, and 98% of clients keep working with us.
Native iOS and Android skills in one team
KMP works best when the team knows Kotlin, Swift and both platforms well, and ours builds native apps for both.
Share what makes sense
We share business logic, networking and data first, and share UI with Compose Multiplatform only where it suits your app.
Adopt step by step
We add a shared module to your existing apps one feature at a time, so you never stop shipping.
Handover your iOS team can use
We document the shared code and set up the Swift side so your iOS developers can work with it confidently.
How we work
Discovery
We review your product, existing apps and team, and decide what should be shared and what should stay native.
You receive Scope and sharing plan
Architecture
We design the shared modules, platform layers, data storage and the way the iOS team will consume shared code.
You receive Architecture and module map
Prototype
One real feature is built end to end in KMP on both platforms to prove the approach with your team.
You receive Working shared feature
Build
Features ship in short iterations, with shared logic first and platform UI alongside, and demos every sprint.
You receive Android and iOS builds each iteration
Test and release
Shared and platform tests, store submission, phased rollout and crash monitoring.
You receive Apps live on both stores
Support
Upgrades, monitoring and new features, with a roadmap for sharing more code over time.

A new KMP app or a shared module for your existing apps built against an agreed scope, timeline and price.
- Written estimate up front
- Demos every iteration
Dedicated team
Kotlin, Android and iOS developers who join your team full time or part time.
- Scale up or down with notice
- Works in your tools and process
Audit or pilot
A short paid review or pilot that answers the key questions before you commit to a full build.
- Clear findings and plan
- No obligation to continue
Questions, answered
It depends on the number of screens and features, how much UI you share, the integrations involved and whether you are starting fresh or adding KMP to existing apps. After a short call we send a written estimate with scope, timeline and team. As a guide, adding a shared KMP module to existing apps usually costs $12,000 to $35,000, and a new Android and iOS app built with KMP $35,000 to $120,000 or more (USD).
Kotlin Multiplatform is the technology for sharing Kotlin code, usually business logic, networking and storage, across platforms. Compose Multiplatform is a UI framework built on top of it that lets you share screens as well. You can use KMP on its own with native UIs, or add Compose Multiplatform to share the interface too.
Yes. Compose Multiplatform for iOS has been stable since 2025 and is used in production apps. We still review each project, because some screens, such as ones that rely heavily on native iOS controls, may be better in SwiftUI.
KMP fits best when you have Kotlin and Android skills or code already, want native UI and performance, or need to share logic but not every screen. Flutter fits when you want one UI codebase across many platforms quickly. React Native fits teams with strong JavaScript and React skills. We will recommend one based on your app, team and budget.
Yes, and this is often the best way to start. We add a shared module to your current Android and iOS apps and move one area, for example networking or a feature's business rules, into it. The apps keep shipping while more code moves over time.
Yes. Shared code is published to the iOS app as a framework with Swift-friendly APIs, using tools such as SKIE. iOS developers keep writing Swift and SwiftUI and call the shared code like any other library.
Yes. Shared code defines what the app needs, and each platform provides the native implementation. Anything available to a native Android or iOS app is available to a KMP app.
A first shared module in an existing app often takes 4 to 8 weeks. A new app for Android and iOS usually takes 3 to 6 months depending on features. We agree milestones in the estimate.
Yes. We handle Kotlin, Compose, Xcode and library upgrades, fix bugs, monitor crashes and add features, on a monthly support plan or with a dedicated team.
You do. All source code, designs, store accounts and build pipelines are yours, in your repositories and accounts.
We start with a short discovery call under NDA if you need one. Send us your idea, any designs or documents, and the systems the work must connect to. We then share a written scope, timeline and estimate before any build work starts.
We encrypt stored data and traffic, keep secrets in the platform keychains, and check access on the backend. You own all code, accounts and data.
