The project
DermaQ is a BeautyTech system that combines skin diagnostics, AI and personalised skincare. For DermaQ we built Lisa AI, a chatbot that gives skincare advice. It asks each user about their skin type, age and main concerns, then searches a library of expert skincare books in PDF form and uses OpenAI's GPT model to write a recommendation based on that material. The first version runs locally, and the design leaves room to connect it to the wider DermaQ platform and its diagnostic data later.
The challenge
- Generic skincare advice ignores a person's skin type, age and specific concerns.
- General-purpose chatbots answer from the open web rather than from trusted dermatology sources.
- DermaQ needed an advice layer that could later plug into its diagnostics platform.
What we built
- A guided conversation that collects skin type, age and concerns before giving advice.
- Retrieval over a curated library of expert skincare books in PDF form.
- Answers written by OpenAI's GPT model from the retrieved book passages.
- A local first version with a modular design ready to move onto the platform.
