The project
Recomate is an AI-powered lifestyle companion that helps people decide what to eat, watch and do. Users pick their interests and answer a few AI-generated questions, and the engine recommends restaurants, cafés, bars, entertainment venues, movies, TV shows, books and activities that match their taste, mood and plans, from a date night to a quiet evening at home. Results link to where to order or stream. Users save favorites, share finds with friends, and the suggestions improve as they use the app. We built it in Flutter with a Node.js backend and a React admin.
The challenge
- Choosing a restaurant, a movie or a weekend plan often means scrolling through endless options.
- Generic top lists do not reflect a person's own tastes or mood.
- Recommendations from friends were scattered across chats and hard to find later.
What we built
- An interest picker and short AI-generated questions that build a taste profile.
- Separate flows to recommend something to watch, eat or do, plus a Surprise Me option.
- Recommendation cards with ratings, descriptions and links to order or stream.
- Favorites, sharing with friends and feedback that sharpens future suggestions.
