The project
HMRC Tax Calculator for UK is a mobile app that turns UK income tax rules into clear numbers. Employees, freelancers and self-employed people enter their income and see their tax, National Insurance, pension tax relief and take-home pay for the chosen tax year. Separate calculators cover single and multiple incomes, net salary, dividend tax, pension tax, rental income, child benefit and capital gains. The app also carries tax-saving tips and tax news, and a premium subscription removes ads and adds PDF reports and video walkthroughs.
The challenge
- UK tax rules, bands and National Insurance make take-home pay hard to estimate by hand.
- People with several incomes, dividends, rental income or pensions need different calculations for each.
- Tax guidance is spread across HMRC pages and news sites that are hard to follow.
What we built
- A tax centre with a dedicated calculator for each income type and tax.
- Calculations based on HMRC rules for the selected tax year, with a full breakdown of deductions.
- A pension calculator that shows automatic tax relief and any extra relief to claim from HMRC.
- Tax tips by topic and breaking tax news inside the app.
- A monthly or yearly premium subscription with an ad-free app, PDF reports and expert videos.
