The project
CertiTrace helps cocoa farmers, field agents and cooperative managers in Côte d'Ivoire work through the ARS-1000 cocoa certification process. Field agents collect farm data offline, with GPS location and photos, during remote inspections. An AI check reviews plant health from photos, and the system builds a development plan for each farm. Managers, funders and certification bodies follow tasks, interventions, compliance checks and reports on role-based dashboards in real time. Certified farms receive a digital certificate with a QR code anyone can scan to verify it. We built the multilingual mobile app in Flutter and the web platform in React, with a Node.js backend.
The challenge
- Certification audits relied on paper forms collected on remote farms with poor connectivity.
- Cooperatives, funders and certification bodies had no shared, up-to-date view of each farm's compliance.
- Buyers needed a way to check that a certificate was genuine.
- Farmers lacked clear guidance on what to improve to meet sustainability standards.
