The project
BallWatch, built for PLAYR Group, is a scouting and recruitment platform for football clubs and academies. Scouts search players and centres, file reports with a grade, rating and position, and see each player's last report date at a glance. Fixtures sit in a calendar or card view, where scouts also mark the days they are unavailable. A messages inbox keeps conversations with the parents of trial players in one place, and notifications keep staff up to date in real time. We built the iOS app in Flutter and the web platform in React and Next.js, with a Node.js backend.
The challenge
- Academy scouts kept player notes in spreadsheets, notebooks and chat groups, so reports were hard to find and compare.
- Recruitment staff had no shared view of which players had been seen, by whom and when.
- Arranging trials meant messages with parents spread across personal phones.
What we built
- A central player database searchable by name, club and centre.
- Structured scout reports with grade, rating, position and report date.
- A fixtures calendar with scout availability.
- A parent messages inbox for trial players.
- A web platform for recruitment staff and an iOS app for scouts, with real-time notifications.
