Ammoudara – Hyperlocal Guide and Community Website
A hyperlocal guide and community website for a Cretan seaside village: places, map, jobs, events and local groups.

The project
Ammoudara is a website for the seaside village of the same name near Heraklion in Crete, built around the idea of reconnecting people, one place at a time. It works as a hyperlocal guide for visitors and residents: an A-Z directory of everyday essentials, food, beaches, health, services and culture, a map of Crete, local jobs and gigs, a year-round events calendar, and community circles where people meet for coffee, a swim, a hike or a beach clean-up.
The challenge
- Visitors arriving in the village had no single place to find pharmacies, doctors, tavernas, beaches and bus stops.
- Local information was scattered across social media groups, word of mouth and general travel sites.
- Newcomers, solo travellers and residents had few easy ways to meet each other and join local activities.
What we built
- A Guide A-Z with 12 categories and filters for open now, nearest, wheelchair accessible and pet-friendly.
- An Atlas map for exploring the village and the rest of Crete.
- Work and Hire listings for local jobs and quick gigs, and an Events 365 calendar.
- Community circles for interests such as food, outdoor sport, pets, books, volunteering and solo travel.
- A first-day basics section for new arrivals and stories about local people and crafts.
