The project
Nextdoor Neighborhood is a social app for people who live in the same area. Residents sign up with their email, verify their address and join their neighborhood, where a local feed carries posts, recommendations, events and safety alerts. Neighbors can buy, sell or give away items in a local marketplace, find nearby businesses, and meet each other through a Wheel of Friends and daily streaks. We built the app in FlutterFlow with Firebase and MySQL and published it on Google Play.
The challenge
- Neighbors had no shared place to hear about local events, safety issues and news.
- Buying, selling and recommending things locally happened in scattered group chats.
- Small local businesses struggled to reach the people living around them.
What we built
- Address-verified sign-up so each user joins their own neighborhood.
- A local feed for posts, comments, recommendations and event invitations.
- A Crime and Safety section to report suspicious activity and receive local alerts.
- A neighborhood marketplace and a directory of local businesses with categories and featured places.
- Wheel of Friends, profiles and streaks to encourage neighbors to connect.
