The project
Kinori is a mobile-first, location-based social platform that connects people through where they come from. Users add their origin, from the city they were born in to where they grew up and where they live now, and the app finds people nearby who share that background. They can browse in a list or on a map, filter by same city, state or country, start a chat, and join communities and groups such as people from one city living in another. It is built for people who have moved, study or travel abroad.
The challenge
- People who move to a new city or country often lose touch with anyone who shares their background.
- General social apps show who is nearby, but not where those people come from.
- Starting a conversation with a stranger is awkward without something in common.
What we built
- Origin profiles that record birthplace, where the user grew up and where they live now.
- Real-time nearby discovery with filters for same city, same state and same country, in list or map view.
- Instant messaging to start a conversation from any profile.
- Communities and groups built around a shared origin in a new location.
